Description
This place has it all: ghosts, history, fire, death and seances!
This location has been an urban legend of sorts for over 100 years. A mansion was built in 1840 amid Northern Ohio farmland but was lost and the mansion was sold to a family of spirituilists who stirred up the ire of the local community. The mansion and farmland was then sold to yet another family (the Sprungers) who opened an orphanage. They abused the kids and were investigated by authorities and was closed shortly thereafter. The mansion was abandoned and burned under mysterious circumstances. Ever since then, reports exists of seeing ghosts and spirits there.
Somehow, someway, the legend has changed over time with the stories seemingly evolving and changing with each generation. The legends include a horrible fire set by the evil caretaker when locked all the kids inside and set fire to them. If you visit the place at night you can hear the kids screaming. The kids are secretly buried by the river and their graves glow at midnight.
The legend is of course, not true. The internet has cleared the air and caused an upswell of interest of the Gore Orphanage site.
The land is currently owned by the Lorain County Metroparks and is technically closed for night visits.
At any given evening people gather there to hunt ghosts, scare each other, spray paint the bridge and be away from adult supervision.
Check out the many videos on Gore Orphanage on YouTube. There are a TON of details I am leaving out of this crazy story.
