Description
On March 11th, 1960 Pittsburgh Mafia lieutenant Sandy Naples was shotgunned to death alongside his girlfriend Mary Ann Vrancich. Naples, 52, was out on a weekend furlough from prison where he was serving time for a gambling and racketeering conviction. Cadillac Charlie Cavallaro and Vinnie De Niro were considered the prime suspects in the brutal double homicide. DeNiro was questioned extensively by both local police and the FBI but was never charged. Previously had severely beaten a man during a robbery. Old timers said that every night around 11PM he would arrive on the porch at Mary Ann’s house at 623 Caledonia Street. That night two hitmen were waiting for him. Mary Ann had just opened the door to greet him and she too was killed.
Check out this Youngstown Mafia video from Youngstown’s legendary reporter Tom Holden.
PS – Sandy Naple’s brother Joey was also murdered in a Mafia hit. That location is on Sir Storia here.

It was super cool to be able to drive past this home. It’s pink with red trimming, which I didn’t expect. Although, it looks like the home hasn’t aged since these photos were taken. The whole street looks like its standing still in time, super cool to see.
This place is still standing. I actually think it’s dam near exactly the same it was back in May of 1960. You can easily visit and get the feeling Sandy had driving up the hill and what he saw walking to the front porch. It’s also easy to imagine where the gun man or men were. Awesome to see in person!
