Description
This is the location where the boss of the fictional Lupertazzi crime family in HBO’s hit show Sopranos was whacked. He was in hiding during the war with the DiMeo crime family and their boss Tony Soprano. He was in the car with his wife and grandchildren when they stopped to get gas. Phil told his wife he needed to make a phone call and got out of the car. While outside of the car he spoke to his wife and grandchildren. At this time DiMeo soldier Walden Belfiore shot Phil from the side in the head.
The scene following was somewhat hysterical and emotional. With Phil laying on the ground dead his wife gets out of the car, leaving the grandchildren in her Ford Expedition. The car begins to drive (without the driver in the seat) and rolls over Phil’s head. It makes a crunching sound which is where the camera pans to bystanders who throw up and say “Oh shit!”. This was classic Sopranos humor that David Chase was known for.
The location this was filmed at was a Raceway Gas Station in Morris Plains, New Jersey. The scene can be seen in the “Made in America” episode. This episode is the 9th episode of Season 6 Part 2, the 21st overall episode of the season and the series finale of the HBO original series The Sopranos.
