Description
Jeffrey Dahmer lived here in Apartment #213 in the 1990-1991. This was the site of 12 or more of his killings. Gruesome murders that were so horrible that the building was demolished.
Oxford Apartments no longer exists. Most tenants moved out of the building after Dahmer’s arrest, and the complex was understandably unable to rent out the empty units to other people.
The building was purchased for $325,000 by the Campus Circle Project, which was described as “a collaborative neighbourhood redevelopment initiative” sponsored by Marquette University. Campus Circle Project helped all remaining tenants find new homes, and then the entire building was demolished at the request of the victim’s families in November 1992, 15 months after the discovery of human remains in Dahmer’s former apartment.
The empty lot was almost converted into a playground, but those plans were never seen to fruition. As of today, the space is a deserted area surrounded by a fence with no future plans to convert it into a playground, apartment complex, or memorial site.
